The iPad, with a variety of features, is quickly becoming not only useful inside the car, but an added feature that comes mounted in the dash of the vehicle in some product lines. Even if this dash mount seems a little out of the way for the driver, it’s still worth having the iPad in the vehicle for the different functions it offers.

The first, and arguably most desired, reason to have an iPad at hand is for the inclusion of the Google Maps app. This app makes use of the iPads that have GPS installed and works similar to that of the iPhone’s but on a larger and faster screen. For those who aren’t comfortable with the navigation features included on the iPad there is the possibility of already established GPS software makers, such as TomTom and Garmin, might also improve on their current iPhone apps for the iPad to have better versions for the iPad as opposed to the driver having to use the iPhone formatted systems. But there are so many uses other than navigation for the iPad in your car due to the amazing quantity of apps the iPad offers. Use the browser of the iPad to make finding interesting locations even easier, or install Google Latitude to have the searching be done for you. Google also offers many different food related apps to help find local restaurant and give feedback on the quality of the product there.

If local travel is the goal, whether for business or pleasure, you can use the iPad’s calendar to easily store both the dates and the directions to appointments and friends celebrations. Also with this is the iPad’s stored address book and Facebook, allowing you to easily find their addresses and get directions.
For those times when traveling especially far away, you can use the iPad as a video system instead of spending thousands on mounted LCD’s. Using the iPad in this way also allows you access to YouTube inside your vehicle, a benefit everyone can enjoy. The iPad also serves as a relaxation device by readily having access to Pandora radio on top of your stored music, far better than the typical FM radio in most vehicles.
Although coming in at a bit of a stretch, the iPad can also help with roadside assistance if your mobile device is out of service or power when you need to contact someone for help. If the iPad has a signal you can use it to email people or possibly use VoIP to call someone.

With all of these possibilities it is easy to see how the iPad can be great in the car. Whether it’s being used as a driving assitant, or as an entertainment device for passengers, the iPad has plenty of functions provided cars to entice a user to have it around. As long as manufacturers continue to give us places of our choosing to mount it instead of being forced to mount it in the dash, there is no reason not to have an iPad in your vehicle.
