There are many companies with the reputation of designing the best that car alarms have to offer. Also, on top of the included features, the car alarm must be one of the best operating alarms on the market.

The Top Ten Car Alarms of 2011

  1. Viper 5901
  2. The Viper 5901 is far and away the top-quality alarm on the market today. This is a combo package of remote starter and car alarm. The car alarm features an LCD built into the remote unit. This display will let the owner know what action triggered the alarm. This could be a door opening, an impact alert or the trunk opening. The LCD will also let the owner know if the engine is running, or the doors are locked, or if the security system is armed.

One of two new features of the Viper 5901 is the shock alarm system. Because car thieves are becoming inventive and simply lifting and towing cars away, the shock system sounds if the car is moved while the alarm is armed. The second new feature is the smart start. For an extra fee, every feature of the alarm remote is moved to a smart phone. It will deliver a text message when the alarm is set off, and offers remote start through the smart phone application.

  3. Python 991
  4. The Python 991 is an extremely reliable car alarm. The Python system offers all of the features of the top place car alarm, the Viper 5901. However, it does not include the “smart start” smart phone technology. The Python is worth a look if the car owner is not interested in smart phone and car alarm integration, or if the car owner prefers Python products.

  5. Prestige APS596N
  6. The Prestige APS596N is a compact remote alarm system. It does not offer all of the features of the top two car alarms but does provide effortless use. This is a comprehensive alarm system, but does not offer remote start. The LCD is not as fully functional as the Python or Viper display system. Instead, the remote itself will beep and chirp various signals while the remote screen will show the area of the car affected. One downside is the high volume of the remote when triggered. Without resetting the alarm, there is no way to stop the noise of the remote chirping.

  7. Crime Stopper SP-600
  8. The Crime Stopper SP-600 is a comprehensive remote and alarm system. The LCD on the remote shows the area of the car affected. This system does offer remote start, as well. The remote buzzes when the car alarm is set off. The main issue with the Crime Stopper item is product support. There were no manuals available online. The website is difficult to navigate. Overall, the customer service is lacking severely.

  9. Avital 3300
  10. The Avital is a fully functional system with door lock controls, trunk controls, and remote start. The display shows the part of the car affected when the alarm sounds. If the car is being stolen, the remote can kill the engine if it is not in gear. Unfortunately, The Avital 3300 does not have a silence feature for the remote, so when the car alarm sounds the remote will beep loudly until the alarm is rearmed.

  11. Crime Guard 750i6
  12. This is a basic alarm package. The small remote has an LCD with many options that are hard to understand without studying the manual.

  13. Pyle PWD501
  14. This is a complete alarm package. This car alarm has been determined to be unreliable. Also, the remote suffers from problems of radio interference.

  15. Black Widow BW-75
  16. This is a fully functional car alarm and remote with fantastic features. However, the customer support includes a poorly designed website, a lack of support options, and overall makes this product unreliable.

  17. ScyTek Precision Pro 500
  18. The ScyTek Precision Pro 500 offers the basic functions necessary of a car alarm. The remote is so small that the screen can be difficult to read. The lack customer support for this product is so poor it is deemed unreliable.

  19. Manufacturer’s Car Alarm
  20. Usually, the manufacturer’s car alarm system is not the stuff of legend. These have a small number of features which are sometimes unreliable. Many of the features and qualities of manufacturer installed alarms depend on the car. If the car owner has an exceptionally basic alarm system that came pre-installed, the top three car alarms on this page are well worth the investment.

Car alarms provide security, and usually decrease insurance premiums. It’s a good idea to collect some insurance quotes from a comparison service like Kanetix before making your decision. This will help to predict your savings beforehand. Often the reduction in insurance rates can payoff your alarm in less than a year. It also reduces the chances of future claims, and therefore keeps on saving you money.
