TeamViewer is an excellent and secure cross-platform remote control software by Teamviewer GmbH. Mainly marketed for tech support by businesses, Teamviewer can also be used to access your desktop anywhere in the world effortlessly, as long Teamviewer is running. Teamviewer proves to be a more user friendly way of connecting 2 computers together than competing alternatives like VNC, SSH and RDP. The main advantage: you don’t have to go through the hassle of configuring ports and set up port forwarding in your router. Teamviewer can be used on the go with minimal configuration. Installation and admin privilege is also optional. In other words, Teamviewer is more user-friendly to end-users, making it great for tech support. Teamviewer is actively updated with new versions and betas frequently.

Every client has its own unique ID and a randomly generated password(although the option to use your own persistent password is offered too). To connect from the client to the remote host, you must know the ID and password of the other user and enter it in the indicated fields.

In addition to remote desktop control, other features include chat, video/audio communication, a “friend” list, file transfer, saving sessions to log files, proxy support and more. Connections are secure with an 256-bit AES session encoding, which is more than enough for average users.

Great uses for this program is to give tech support to friends or consumers quickly, or access your computer while away. The iOS version allows you to access any computer with your iPhone or iPod Touch!
